Every second of the day, from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep, is taken up by your busy schedule.
You never have time to buy, prepare and eat the foods that will help you to lose weight.
Does that sound familiar? Does it apply to your life?
Are you finding it hard to lose weight with such a busy lifestyle?
If so, read on…
Having a busy lifestyle can make it difficult to lose weight, or maintain a healthy weight, if that’s your aim.
You need a quick and easy way to make meals that will help you lose weight.
It’s not called fast food for no reason
You might expect that being too busy to eat properly would help you to lose weight, but the opposite is often the case.
When you are busy you may not make time to prepare healthy food and do proper exercise.
You are more likely to eat whatever doesn’t take much time, also know as “fast food”, and we all know how unhealthy that can be.
Being very busy can also lead to what is called, “mindless eating”, where you lose track of what and how much you eat. This can lead to mystifying weight gain, and frustration at your inability to lose weight.
People like this often claim they hardly eat anything, and are horrified when the actual amount is pointed out to them.
So what should you do if you have a hectic lifestyle? Many people could become discouraged and give up trying to lose weight – but not you!
But how can you eat healthy meals when you have such a busy lifestyle?
Here’s one solution I have found to this problem – smoothies!
Smoothies vs Juicing
I saw the film “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead”, in which Joe Cross goes on a “juice fast” for several weeks. This got me interested in juicing.
Juicing seems to require a juicer, which is a machine that extracts the juice from fruit and vegetables. This produces a very concentrated, nutrient-rich juice, and this seemed very appealing to me.
However, something I noticed about juicing is that all the fruit and vegetable pulp and dietary fiber was being left behind as the juice was extracted.
It’s well known that eating fruit and vegetable fiber has various health benefits, so maybe just drinking juice wasn’t the way forward for me.
Smoothies seemed a better option
I had seen adverts on TV for blender-type machine called a NutriBullet. In these ads a health expert called David Wolfe demonstrated how you could throw in fruits, vegetables and various seeds, add water, and whisk it all up into a smoothie. He called a “nutri-blast”.
I ummed and ahhed about buying one of these machines, but didn’t really take any action until our local electrical store had them on sale. So I took the plunge.
Smoothies keep all the fiber and pulp, so you get the benefits of the rich nutrient juice plus the benefits of all the other good stuff.
Smoothies are quick and easy
You can make a smoothie for breakfast in about one minute, make a smoothie for lunch in about one minute, and you can make a smoothie for dinner in (you guessed it) about one minute.
It’s so easy.
Throw it all in
So what should you put in these smoothies?
Well, pretty much anything that comes from plants. Sorry, I did mention that they should be fruit and vegetable smoothies didn’t I?
I started off looking up fruit, vegetables and grains on the internet to see what I should include.
Here’s what I thought looked like some good choices.
- Vegetables – Kale, Spinach, Broccoli
- Fruits – Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries
- Nuts, seeds, grains, etc – Cashews, Almonds, Sunflower seeds, Flax Seeds, Sesame seeds, Pumpkin seeds.
By the way, it only takes a couple of minutes to pick up a bag of each of these ingredients at the supermarket. They are very inexpensive, and they last for ages. All good!
I just put in a handful of all the vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, add water and flick the switch. Twenty seconds later I have very nutritious (and very tasty) smoothie to drink. This really is fast food!
Smoothies – nutritious and filling
The incredible thing I noticed was just how filling one of these smoothies is. I don’t feel like eating junk in between these meals, so it really helps with weight loss and management.
You can also make one of these smoothies in the morning and take it to work, college, or whatever you are doing that day. Some of the smoothie makers include containers and lids that you can use to transport and drink your smoothie.
So what do you think? Why not give it a go? It’s working for me at the moment.
